Rudolf Liebenberg is a Cape Town-based multidisciplinary artist whose work explores memory, journey, and layered perception through drawing, mixed media, and found materials. He is known for blending fine line work with textured, often unconventional surfaces such as road signs, maps, heat-pressed shopping bags, and industrial paint—transforming elements of the everyday into evocative artworks. His visual language draws on both street art and classical mark-making, often merging the personal with the urban and historical. Through recurring motifs like faces on roadmaps, symbolic animals, and mythic figures, Liebenberg investigates themes of transformation, impermanence, and the stories we carry. His recent body of work revolves around fables, folklore, and legends, serving as a platform to explore universal truths, cultural heritage, and introspection. Liebenberg is also a co-founder of the New Art Collective, a community-driven initiative showcasing contemporary South African artists and fostering engagement through exhibitions and creative events. He has collaborated with local institutions and companies—ranging from veterinary clinics to roadmarking firms—bringing public art into unexpected spaces. Ultimately, Rudolf Liebenberg’s practice is about finding meaning in layers, both literal and metaphorical—drawing lines that reveal more than they define.
